Emil “Max” Joseph Maxa

Emil “Max” Joseph Maxa, age 83, of Montgomery, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at his home in Montgomery. Celebration of Life Open House will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2023 from 1pm to 5pm at the American Legion Post 79 in Montgomery.

Max was born on December 20, 1939 on the family farm in Rice County to Joseph and Salbina (David) Maxa. He was a graduate of Holy Redeemer School and Montgomery High School. He served in the United States Air Force from 1958-1962 as a parachute Rigger in the fabrication shop in Fairchild Air Force base in Washington. Emil was united in marriage to Patricia Zoff on September 12, 1959. He brought his family home in 1965, he joined the family business as a general manager of Zoff Chevrolet. He also owned Max’s Trim Shop up to retirement, was a school bus driver for Montgomery Schools for 20 years, drove truck for United Steel for many years. Max volunteered for the Montgomery Fire Department for 21 years, member of the Montgomery area JC’s, proud American Legion Post 79 in Montgomery for 54 years. He enjoyed time with family, dancing, outdoor activities, camping at Breezy Point, avid Minnesota sports fan, an expert in and connoisseur in soup making, playing cards- Pfeffer and a good game of gin.

Max is survived by his wife, Pat Maxa of 64 years; children, Mike (Nancy) Maxa, Rick (Kary) Maxa, and Vicki Perrigo (Maxa); 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Lucille Palma (Maxa); many nieces and nephews and friends.
Max is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ludy Berg (Maxa); grandson, Andrew Maxa; son-in-law, Troy Perrigo; great-grandson, Clyde Allen Perrigo.
