BETH EILEEN BARBER, age 97, of Le Center passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
Born on July 8, 1927, in Le Center, Beth was the daughter of Roy and Merle (Eddy) Vollmer. She was raised on a small farm east of town and graduated with the McKinley High School Class of 1945. After graduation, she traveled to California, where she met the love of her life, who was undergoing naval training. On June 7, 1946, Beth was united in marriage to Lyle Barber in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Together, they raised seven children.
Beth worked for many years as a nurse’s aide at Central Health Care and later as a laborer at Winco, retiring in 1989. A devoted member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Le Center, she gave her time as a Sunday School teacher and Cub Scout leader. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, traveling, camping, and, most of all, spending time with her family.
Beth is survived by her children, Lawrence Barber of AK, John Barber of Le Center, Randy Barber of Mankato; brother, Lloyd Vollmer of Hastings; ten grandchildren, Shawn, Julie, Joseph, Christopher, Joshua, Caleb, Johnathan, Haley, Kyle, Chad; and many other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Barber; parents, Roy and Merle Vollmer; sons, Mark and Mike Barber; daughters, Patty Fiscel and Christine Holicky sisters, Carol Hidemeyer and Jean Miller; and brother, Roger Vollmer.
A memorial service of Beth will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Le Center. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. A burial will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery.
