Blanche (Maxa) Sorenson, age 86, of Montgomery, died peacefully Sunday, August 25, 2019 in her apartment at Traditions of Montgomery. Her daughter and her best friend, Carol Kotasek were with her at the time. Visitation will be at St. Johns Lutheran Church of Montgomery on Saturday, September 7, at 10:00 a.m. Church service is at 11:00, followed by a luncheon.
Blanche was born on March 28, 1933 to James and Emma Maxa of Montgomery. She attended school in Montgomery and graduated in 1951. She took a year of training to go into nursing until funds ran dry, then worked at Minnesota Mutual Insurance in the actuarial department in St. Paul. She met her husband, Marvin, through his sister, Shirley while they were roommates. Marvin was in the U.S. Air Force.
Blanche and Marvin were married August 13, 1955. They were married for 29 years and lived in 4 states and 2 different countries until Marvin retired from service in 1972, then settled in Montgomery. Blanche worked at various jobs in Montgomery and New Prague. When Marvin passed away, she went to school and became a Human Services Technician at Faribault State Hospital until she retired. She also served as an EMT with Montgomery Ambulance. She was a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries. After retirement, she worked with Aging Services providing respite for caregivers, and volunteered with other organizations as well. Blanche was known for her love of children, her outgoing friendliness, and of course, for her stories!
She is survived by her daughter, Renee Sorenson; grand-daughter, Nicole (Schweitzer) Sorenson; sister, Mabel (Maxa) Craig.
Blanche was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Irene (Maxa) Kubik.
