Charles Vavra, age 92, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at his home in Le Center. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 5 from 9am to 10am at Le Center Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10am also at the Le Center Funeral Home with Pastor Ally Bowman officiating. Interment will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery in Le Center. Military honors will be provided by the Le Center area Veterans Honor Guard. Memorials preferred to DAV (Disabled American Veterans).
Charles was born on September 25, 1928 on the family farm in Le Center to Fred F. and Anna (Holey) Vavra. He went through 8th grade at the Country School and received his GED while serving in the United States Air Force and from which he retired after 23 years. Charles was united in marriage to Marlys D. Ristow on December 26, 1950 in Le Center. Charles worked as a farmer and HVAC Mechanic after retirement. Charles was a member of the American Legion and VFW in Le Center. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, visiting with friends, doing wood carvings of airplanes and decoys, fixing and repairing work, wintering in Texas for 33 years, and enjoyed his family to the fullest.
Charles is survived by his daughters, Deborah Waldriff of Le Center and Linda (Greg) Forbes of Chatfield; grandchildren, Jennifer Waldriff, Jason Waldriff, Jeffery Waldriff, Gretchen Forbes, Ryan Forbes and Clinton Forbes; great-grandchildren, Dayla, Tyler, MiKayla, Riley, Isaac, and Owen; sister, Shirley Kopet of Shakopee.
Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Marlys Vavra; parents; siblings, Fred Jr. Vavra, George Vavra, Ben Vavra, Milo Vavra, Stanley Vavra, Lucille Schmidt, and Geraldine Lerbs.
