Delmer P. Braun, age 92, of Montgomery, died on Monday, October 5th, 2015 at Central Health Care in Le Center, MN. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery with visitation one hour prior at the church. Burial will be at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Montgomery.
Delmer was born December 29th, 1922 to Paul E. and Pauline (Nuessmeier) Braun in Le Sueur County. He was baptized and confirmed in Dresselville Church in Sharon Township, Le Sueur County. He attended District #99 country school in Le Sueur County and graduated from Montgomery High School in 1941. Delmer served in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in the Pacific Theater in the Philippines and Japan. He received a Bronze Star, Overseas Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Pacific Theater Service Medal. He was Honorably Discharged May 15th, 1946.
Delmer farmed his entire life in the Montgomery area and always took great pride in his crops and his cattle. Delmer was a member of St. John Lutheran Church for 74 years and served on the Church Council. He was also a member of the Montgomery Shipping Association and served on the Montgomery-Lonsdale School Board for several years. Delmer was a member of the Lions Club for many years and was currently a member of the American Legion Post #79 in Montgomery.
His marriage to Betty M. Kewatt took place on August 28th, 1951 at St. John Lutheran Church in Kilkenny. Delmer and Betty celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this past August. Delmer especially enjoyed playing cards, reading, watching wildlife, and solving puzzles. His greatest enjoyment was his family and family gatherings.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty M. Braun; children, Diane (Dave) Schirmacher, Owatonna, Delaine (Jimmy) Roberts, Oldsmar, FL; Harvey (Carol) Braun, Montgomery, and Gloria (Rick) Sorem, Big Lake; grandchildren, Amy (Schirmacher) Quaintance, Bloomington, Adam Schirmacher, Boulder, CO; Kelly Roberts, Orlando, FL; Eric Braun, Lakeville, Jackie (Andrew) Braun-Lewis, Lauderdale, Zachary Sorem, Big Lake, Kelsey Sorem, Big Lake, and great-grandchildren Caden and Adelyn Quaintance, Bloomington; sister-in-law, Rita Miskimen and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Delmer is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Vernon (Irma) Braun and Paul (Mary) Braun, and his sister Doris (Ray) Vlasak.
