Edward E. Holicky Jr.

Edward E. Holicky, Jr, age 97, of Montgomery passed away on Friday, December 25, 2020 at Traditions Assisted Living Facility in Montgomery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 9 from 10am to 11am at Most Holy Redeemer Church in Montgomery with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11am with Father George Grafsky officiating.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery. Military Honors will be provided by the Montgomery area Honor Guard. Masks and social distancing must be maintained if in attendance. Edward Holicky was born on 16 March 1923, in Lexington Township, Minnesota, to Edward T and Helen (Benzick) Holicky. Edwards early life was spent on the farm and he especially enjoyed riding horses and helping his dad. He attended school in Le Center through the eighth grade and then worked as mucker truck drive and carpenter helper. He later traveled to Mobile, AL where he worked for the War Department, United States Engineers office, as an assistant equipment inspector at the Tuskegee Army flying school-airport before being drafted in the Army. His first assignment was to Ft Meade, Maryland, guarding prisoners of war before being deployed to Italy where he served with the 5th Army. When he returned to the States, he married his longtime fiancé Catherine Genelin on 18 September 1945 at St Henry Catholic church. He was Honorably discharged from the Army in February of 1946 and settled in Montgomery. He worked several different jobs at the creamery and flour mill in Montgomery, he was a local Standard Oil bulk agent, a part owner of the Alba Bar in Montgomery, all before he settled into a career of road construction. Some of the construction jobs included work on I-494, I-94, state highway 60, Hennepin county road 10, Holman airport in St Paul, and the Prairie island Power Plant. He retired from construction in September of 1987. Edward enjoyed gardening, ice fishing, traveling, and helping his kids out with special projects. He enjoyed being with his family and always had a good story to tell. He donated his free time to helping at his local church and taking clothes up to Sharing and Caring Hands. He was an active member of the VFW (74 years), American Legion, and Honor Guard (72 Years), as well as the Knights of Columbus. He loved the town of Montgomery and often helped with setting up for the big Kolacky Day parades of years gone by.

Edward is survived by his children, Dan and Noriko Holicky of Lady Lake, FL, Karen and Dennis Dold of Summerfield, FL, Chuck and Cara Holicky of Frederic, WI, and Sandy Holicky of Grasonville, MD; Sister, Mary Catherine Holicky OSB, of St Joseph, MN and Ann and Mike Preble of Bloomington, MN; 9 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

Edward is preceded in death by his wife, Catherine (Genelin) Holicky in 2001; his parents, Edward T (1977) and Helen (Benzick-1979) Holicky of Montgomery; his sister, Ethel Genelin (2011) of Le Sueur.
