Emil Knish was called into God's loving embrace on Thursday, October 9, 2014, surrounded by his family. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 12, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Le Center Funeral Home in Le Center. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 13, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Le Center with visitation one hour prior at the Church. Burial will be at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Le Center.

Emil, age 94 was born on September 2, 1920, in Elysian Township, Le Sueur County to Emil Knish Sr. and Augusta (Meier) He was the second youngest of 10 children and the last survivor. He enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Korea from 1946-1947.

On May 24, 1951, he married Mamie and they resided in Le Center and were life-long members of St. Paul Lutheran Church. They were blessed with 8 children. Emil worked road construction. He retired in 1988. He enjoyed gardening and marketing his beautiful vegetables at the St. Peter Farmer's Market, where the other vendors became his extended family. He was an avid trapper for over 60 years and also a scrap dealer. Emil was a member of the American Legion Post 108, VFW, Izaak Walton, Le Center Community Club and the German Jefferson Sportsman Club. His kind heart and gentle strength were known to all who knew him.

Emil enjoyed reading, playing cards, word find puzzles and Yahtzee with his family. He loved fishing trips with his sons and a good fish fry with family and friends.

Emil is survived by his wife, Mamie; children, Barbara (Wayne) Krohn, Robert (Ordella) Knish, Gary Knish, Bonnie (Wayne) Johnson, Randy (DeAnn) Knish, Steve (Patricia) Knish, Emil III (Terry) Knish, Kimberly (Hermann Klaas) Knish; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers; 7 sisters; grandson, Jason Bradshaw; daughter-in-law, Lori Knish and great-granddaughter, Annalise Knish.

Military honors will be provided by the Le Center Area Honor Guard.

Our family wishes to thank Dad's team of angels at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter, River's Edge Hospital Staff and United Heart and Vascular Staff in St. Paul.
