Glenyce Corrine Engel

Glenyce Corrine Engel, 84, of Le Center, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Central Health Care in Le Center. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 9, from 12:30 pm to 2 pm at the United Methodist Church in Le Center with services following at 2 pm with Pastor Donna Martinson officiating. Interment will be held in Greenwood Union Cemetery in Le Center.

Glenny was born on October 16, 1934 in Springfield, SD. To Peter and Edna (Oliver) Ferwerda. She attended country school, graduated from Springfield High School where she was valedictorian and Homecoming Queen, graduated from the University of South Dakota at Springfield where she received her teaching degree. Glenny was united in marriage to Theodore “Roy” Engel on November 23, 1955 in Springfield, SD., at the United Church of Christ. Glenny and Roy lived in Mitchell, Phillip, Clark, Selby, and Lennox, SD where she taught full and part time until moving to Le Center in 1977. Glenny enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing Bridge, boating, traveling and camping with family. She was very active in The United Methodist Church in Le Center where she sang in the church choir. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, active in the PTA and Jaycees, and taught Sunday school.

Glenny is survived by her children, Kurt (Dawn) Engel of Watertown, SD, Kevin (Karyl) Engel of Le Center, Rodney (Donna) Engel of Jordan; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Glenny is preceded in death by her husband, Theodore “Roy” Engel; her parents; sisters, Dorothy Kirkham, Fonda Nedved, Austa Balvin, Ives Helm, and a sister in infancy.
