Irene Margie Zvanovec, 87, of Montgomery passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, at Mala Strana Health Care Center in New Prague on February 23, 2019. Visitation will be 9:30AM to 11AM on Friday, March 1 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery. Mass of Christian burial to follow at 11AM, with Father Victor Valencia officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery.
Irene was born April 22, 1931 to Frank and Josephine Hanek, in Veseli, MN. She was the 6th of 8 children. She grew up in Veseli, and graduated from New Prague High School in 1948. She married Leonard Zvanovec of rural Montgomery in 1950, and they had 4 children; daughter, Jan (Tom) Palumbo of Prior Lake; 3 sons, Robert (Deb) of Lakeville, Gary of Montgomery, and David (Michael) of Minneapolis. She was married to Leonard for 67 years prior to his death in 2017. She is survived by their sons and daughter; 8 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Irene had an interest in many clubs and organizations over her lifetime, but her main focus was always raising their children on the family farm just east of Montgomery. She also worked several part-time jobs during her career, including Munsingwear, Green Giant, Citizens State Bank of Montgomery, and the Schumacher Hotel Gift Shop in New Prague. Her associations included membership at Holy Redeemer Church, and affiliations with the Rice Krispies 4-H Club, Red Hat Society, and the Rice County Extension Group.
She is preceded in death by her husband Leonard, her parents and her 7 siblings.
