James 'Sam' Francis Prochaska

James "Sam" Francis Prochaska, age 67, of Montgomery, died on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at the Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Scholastica Catholic Church in Heidelberg. Funeral Service will be also held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Father Dave Barrett and Father George Grafsky will be celebrating the mass. Interment will be in the St. Scholastica Cemetery in Heidelberg.

Sam was born on August 16, 1948 in New Prague to Francis and Evelyn (Wolf) Prochaska. He graduated from Montgomery High School. Sam served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War 1968 to 1969. Sam was united in marriage to Carol Miller on May 8, 1971 at St. Scholastica Catholic Church in Heidelberg. Sam worked for the City of Montgomery for many years and also farmed.

Sam was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and farming, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Sam is survived by his wife, Carol of Montgomery; children, Brian (Roxie) Prochaska of Montgomery, and Angela Prochaska of Montgomery; grandchildren, Cory, Haylee, Gabrielle and Makayla; siblings, Kathy Prochaska of Prior Lake, Greg "Butch" (Saundra) Prochaska of China, Dan (Ann) Prochaska of Montgomery, Margo (Jack) Mauser of Cleveland, Terri Novak of Savage, Steve "Butcher" (Jeri) Prochaska of Elko New Market, Tom "Perch" (Julie) Prochaska of Montgomery, and Lisa Prochaska Sole of Kentucky; sisters-in-law, Mary Stepka of Veseli, and Jeannette Miller of Northfield; many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Jerry Stepka, and Jim Miller; mother and father-in-law, John and Elizabeth Miller; nephew, Tony Stepka; and niece, Sue Miller.

Military honors will be provided by the Le Center area Honor Guard.
