Laverna Minnie Emma Picka

LaVerna Minnie Emma Picka, age 91 of Le Center, died on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Mala Strana Health Care in New Prague. Visitation will be from 4-7pm on Friday, December 8 at Le Center Funeral Home in Le Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 9 at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 10:30 with visitation one hour prior at the church. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Le Center.

LaVerna was born on October 2, 1926 at home in Sharon Township to Emil and Minnie (Wolpern) Boettcher. She was baptized at Dresselville Church and confirmed May 7, 1939 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Le Center. LaVerna attended Dresselville Country School. LaVerna was united in marriage to Frank E. Picka on May 1, 1947 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Montgomery. LaVerna was a home maker and worked at Spors, was the head cook at Le Center School for 30 years, retired and worked 10 more years at Le Sueur County courthouse as a receptionist. LaVerna loved playing cards, sewing doll clothes and making quilts for her family, and friends.

LaVerna is survived by her daughter, Shirley Ann of Roseville; brother-in-law, Harry Picka of Fairmont; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

LaVerna is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Picka; her parents; brothers, Willmar and Elmer Boettcher; sister, Leona Huber; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
