Lawrence John Smisek

Lawrence John Smisek, age 84, of Montgomery, died on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at the Villages of Lonsdale. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with visitation one hour prior at church. Father Victor Valencia will be officiating. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery.

Lawrence was born on August 10, 1931 to Edward and Julia (Trnka) Smisek. He was united in marriage to Helen Kalal in Lonsdale on May 15, 1956. He worked as a sod farmer, was an insurance agent for NPCL in New Prague, and a school bus driver for many years for the Montgomery- Lonsdale schools. Lawrence was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was proud of his Czech heritage and enjoyed playing button accordion, ice fishing, playing cards, and dancing to old time music.

Lawrence is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen of Montgomery; children, Larry (Meg) Smisek of Palatine, IL., Bruce (Sheila) Smisek of Montgomery, Steve (Becky) Smisek of Heidelberg, Cindy (Randall) Rivers of New Prague, Laura (Wade) Hintz of New Prague, and Brenda (Tim) Budin of Le Center; 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and brother, Arnie (Mary) Smisek of Elko.

Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Mathew Smisek; and five siblings.
