Lawrence “Larry” John Germscheid, age 74, of Le Center passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at St. Benedictine in St. Peter. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 9 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Le Center from 8am to 10am with Mass of Christian Burial at 10am with Father James Stiles officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Center. Military honors will be provided by the Le Center area Honor Guard.
Larry was born on August 5, 1945 in St. Peter to Cletus and Lorraine (Doheny) Germscheid. Larry attended St. Marys Catholic School in Le Center through 8th grade where he acquired a strong faith base, then he attended McKinley High School, Le Center, graduating in 1963. He served in the Army Reserves from 1963 -1969. He farmed all his life, raised cattle, pigs, and horses and also was a truck driver for Selly Construction and Met Con Construction for 20 years. He was united in marriage to Shirley Pope on September 10, 1966. They were blessed with 3 children.
He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church and helped by being an eucharistic minister, member of the KCs and the American Legion in Le Center.
Larry was a dedicated and hard worker in everything he did. He enjoyed gardening and landscaping his home area, riding horses, camping with family and friends, sports, hunting, and traveling. He took great joy in watching his children and grandchildrens sporting and school events. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren.
Larry is remembered for being a friend of Bill W. for 45 years and helping others, his positive attitude, his devotion to God and love and kindness to his family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Shirley of Le Center; sons, Pat (Sue) of England, and Chris (Brenda) of Kasota; granddaughters, Elisabeth and Catherine of England and Sydnee of Kasota; brother, Tom (Cindy) of New Mexico; sister, Kitty (John) Marszalek of Coon Rapids; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim (Rita) Konen of Mendota Heights and Ken (Judy) Franek of North Carolina; nephews and nieces.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Gina in 1992; sister, Rose Lynn; and brother-in-law, Hugh Armstrong.
