Leonard Joseph Duffney

Leonard Joseph Duffney, age 89, of Montgomery, died on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at his home with his boots on. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery. Memorial service will also be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Church. Pastor Mark Wilms will be officiating.

Leonard was born on April 16, 1927 in Erin Township in Rice County to Edward and Mary (Tuma) Duffney. He enlisted in the United States Navy when he was 17 during WWll. He received his Honorary High School Diploma in 2000 from Montgomery- Lonsdale High School.

Leonard was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Montgomery. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, making wine and farming on his 3rd generation farm on Phelps Lake and was also a Federal Farm Crop Adjuster. He was very outgoing, humorous and loved to tease his grandchildren.

Leonard is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rhoda (Lehman) Duffney of Montgomery; children, Scott (Debbie) Duffney of Shakopee, and Mary Lynn Schatz of Montgomery; son-in-law, Gary Korbel (Friend, Sue Lawson) of Kilkenny; grandchildren, Robin (Matt) Fink, Kerry (Kevin) Weckman, Kristin Duffney, Lauren (Brad) Allen, David Matzke, Andy (Chelsey) Schatz, Emily (Brian) Teberg, Philip (friend, Erica Solie) Korbel; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Roger (JoAnn) Duffney of Republic, Washington, and many nieces and nephews.
Leonard is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kimberly Korbel; great-granddaughter, Tehnlee Teberg; and 7 siblings.

Military honors will be provided by the Montgomery area Honor Guard.
