Leonard Joseph Wondra, age 95, of Montgomery, died on Monday, January 13, 2020.

Leonard was born on January 18, 1924 at home in Le Sueur County to Joseph and Rose (Janovsky) Wondra. Leonard was united in marriage to Viola David at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in 2017. Leonard farmed full-time until 1966, then joined Borson Construction as a carpenter, retiring in 1986. In his retirement, he managed Meadow Ridge Apartments in Montgomery for twenty-five years.

Leonard served as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus where he was a member since 1951, President of the Shakopee Carpenters Union Local 1644 from 1980 to 1985, Clerk of the Country School Board, and member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic School Board, Holy Redeemer Parish Council, Arts & Heritage Center, and Mobilize Montgomery. Leonard enjoyed travelling, reading, woodworking, and playing cards with family and friends.

Leonard is survived by his children, Kathleen (James Chapman, deceased) of Tualatin, OR., Terese of St. Louis, MO., David of Minneapolis, Joseph (Susan Hanek) of New Prague, and Thomas (Kellyanne Kozicki) of North Prairie, WI.; grandchildren, Emily (Chapman) McDonald, Joseph Chapman, Michael Chapman, Lucas Brown, Carly (Brown) Warhurst, Jennifer Wondra, Anna Wondra, Emilee Wondra, Theresa (Wondra) Friendshuh, Laura Wondra, Josh Wondra, Ellen Wondra, Nick Wondra, Matt Wondra, Maura Wondra, Karlyn Justen, and nine great-grandchildren.

Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Lucille, Delores, Leola, Evangeline, Ella Jean, and wife, Viola.

Visitation was held at Schoenbauer Funeral Home on Friday, January 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. The Knights of Columbus held a rosary service at 6:30 p.m.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 18, at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church in Montgomery with Reverend Tom Niehaus officiating. Pall bearers were his grandsons. The gift bearers were his granddaughters.

Leonards children Joseph and Terese gave the scripture readings. David played a trumpet solo, “How Great Thou Art.” Thomas sang “One Day at a Time,” accompanying himself on the guitar. Kathleen gave the eulogy.
