Luella Elizabeth Mcgillen

Luella Elizabeth McGillen, 95, of Le Center passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at the Benedictine Living Community of St. Peter. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 19, 2018 from 8:30AM until 10:00AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Le Center, with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00AM. Father Christopher Shofner will be officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Le Center.

Luella was born on January 17, 1923 at the home of Louis and Ella (Rosenau) Jelinek in Montgomery. She graduated from School District #24 near Kilkenny in 1936 and from Montgomery High School in 1940. In 1941 she graduated from Le Center Teachers Training (Normal) and then taught school in District #18 east of Montgomery until 1948.

She married Kevin McGillen on May 20, 1948. They farmed in the Montgomery and New Prague areas until 1957 when they purchased a farm near Le Center. They farmed and resided there until 1991 when they moved into Le Center. She loved farm life and was always interested in what was going on at the farm. She lived in Le Center until 2012, at which time she moved to an assisted living and then 4 years later to a nursing home. She was a great homemaker and always shared her canning and baked goods with her family. She loved to garden, mow lawn, read, play cards, and follow the Minnesota Twins and Timberwolves. But her main love was her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Pinney of Le Center, 2 grandchildren, Kate (Jeff) Bohn of Eagan and Michael (Bridget) Pinney of Le Sueur and 4 great-grandchildren, Austin and Audrey Bohn and Hayden and Luther Pinney, as well as her sister-in-law Phyllis Brozak and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kevin McGillen, son-in-law Alan Pinney, parents, brothers Leighton and Eldred Jelinek, sisters Marjorie Lindeman and Mariella Bartyzal, plus many brothers and sisters in laws.
