Marvin Lawrence Edel, age 87, of Kilkenny, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at Central Health Care in Le Center after a brief illness of cancer. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 22 from 4pm-8pm at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with a KC rosary at 3:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 23 at 11am with visitation one hour prior also at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Tom Niehaus officiating. Interment will be held in the Trebon Cemetery.

Marvin was born on August 19, 1935 in Shieldsville Township in Rice County to Joseph B. and Emma C. (Velishek) Edel. He went to school at a country school near Shieldsville and was a graduate of Montgomery High School. He married Georgene Trcka on October 13, 1954. He farmed all his life raising dairy cows, pigs, chickens until 1987. After Jean’s passing, he was united in marriage to Andrea K. Ziegenhagen on November 5, 1993 at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery.

Marvin was a lifelong member of the Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, eucharistic minister, served on the Shieldsville town board, and the Trebon Cemetery board for many years, and also was a member of the KC’s. He enjoyed hard work on the farm, tinkering in his shop, square dancing, gardening, loved his dog, Wolfy, and above all else spending time with his family.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Andrea Edel of Kilkenny; children, Carol (Mark) Rypka of Owatonna, Charlene (Mike) Boettcher of Le Center, Charlotte (Joe) Kodada of Lonsdale, Larry (Pam) Edel of Montgomery, Cindy (Dave) Emanuelson of Owatonna, and Corrine (Greg) Jensen of Apple Valley; step children, Annette (Danny) Gregor of Kilkenny and Mitch (friend Tammy) Schleis of Las Vegas; 15 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren; brother, Joe Edel of Faribault.

Marvin is preceded in death by first wife, Jean; parents; and great granddaughter, Molly Jean Clarke; brother, Alvin Edel; and sister, Leatrice Malecha.
