Merlin James Plonsky left this world peacefully on March 19, 2025 at the age of 79 surrounded by his family at Central Health Care in Le Center. Merlin was born on April 24, 1945 to Peter and Cecelia (Konopik) Plonsky. He grew up in Montgomery and graduated in 1963 from Montgomery High School.
He was united in marriage to Carmen Dalsted, on May 8, 1965. He started his career as a professional painter alongside his father-in-law and later went on his own as Plonsky Painting.
Merlin was a man who fully embraced life, with a deep love for family, animals of all kind, hunting, fishing, boating, riding around the country-side, playing cards, listening to music, and joking. He was also a member of the Montgomery American Legion.
Merlin is survived by his children, Scott (Tammy) Plonsky of Montgomery, Joy Gast of Little Falls, Peter “PJ” (Dianne) Plonsky of Cleveland, and Amber Plonsky (Branden Johnson) of Le Center; significant other “sweetheart” Katie Daugherty of Montgomery; 10 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Carmen Plonsky; daughter, Kelly Marie Plonsky; his parents; brothers, Clarence Plonsky, Dick “Richard” Plonsky, Leonard Plonsky, and Lawrence “Chappy” Plonsky
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at St. Scholastica Catholic Cemetery in Heidelberg at 12:00 pm with Celebration of Life to follow from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm Pla-Mor Lanes in Montgomery.
