Mildred Marilynne (Mixa, Lehrer) Derauf, 85 of Minneapolis formerly of Montgomery, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Augustana Nursing Home in Apple Valley. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 11, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, November 12 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Montgomery.
Mildred was born on May 19, 1928 to Francis and Emma (Erkel) Gibbs in Le Sueur County. She went to country school, graduated from Le Center High School, graduated from Hamline University and was a post graduate in Duluth. She married Raymond Mixa on November 18, 1950. He preceded her in death in 1979. She married Doctor Alfred Lehrer on September 19, 1981. He preceded her in death in 1990. She married Ben I. Derauf on July 17, 1996. Mildred worked as a Medical Technologist for the VA Hospital in Minneapolis, Family Medical Center in Montgomery and Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague.
She was very active in St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery, taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir and played piano. She was a member of the University of Minnesota Extension group. She enjoyed playing bridge, loved to travel, was an avid reader and a fabulous baker and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by husband; Ben I. Derauf, children Candy (Bill) Marx of Mazeppa, Scott (Marlene) Mixa of Grand Rapids, Steve (Gretchen) Mixa of Apple Valley; grandchildren Amy Mixa of New York, New York, Tyler Mixa of Boulder, CO, Sophia Mixa and Jared Mixa both of Apple Valley, sibling, Jim and (Adelyne) Gibbs of Grand Forks, sisters-in-law, Patty Gibbs of Le Center and Mable White of Des Moines, IA. and brother-in-law, Kermit Klefsaas of Brooklyn Center, and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, step-children and step-grandchildren.
Mildred is preceded in death by her first and second husbands, parents, and siblings Donald Gibbs and Marilyn Klefsaas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Kids Alive International, Hamline University or St. John's Lutheran Church.
