Mona T. Smisek

Mona T. Smisek, age 85, of New Prague, died on March 10, 2014 at Mala Strana Health Care Center in New Prague. Visitation will be Friday, March 14 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Le Center, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. with Father Chris Shofner officiating. Spring interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Le Center.
Mona was born July 24, 1928 in New Prague to Frank and Theresa (Ziegenhagen) Smisek. Mona attended school at District #8 in Lexington Township. She worked on the farm and at Green Giant canning factory in Montgomery. In 1952, Mona moved to Minneapolis and worked at various hospitals and factories. Mona moved back to New Prague in 1964 and worked in housekeeping for the next 43 years, at Queen of Peace Hospital, until her retirement in 2007.
She enjoyed traveling, talking many trips in the US to New Orleans, New York City, California and Hawaii. She also traveled to Canada and London, England with the Hymnus Choir. Mona enjoyed country western and old-time music and dancing and she sang in the St. Wenceslaus choir.
Mona is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers are nephews, Ron Smisek, Tony Smisek, LeRoy Smisek, Mark Smisek, Lyle Smisek and Wayne Smisek.
She is preceded in death by her parents, twin sister, MoAnn Smisek; sister, Myrtle Budin; and brother Francis Smisek.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
