Orville “Orv” William Sawatzky, age 88, of Montgomery, passed away at Mala Strana in New Prague on Friday, July 17, 2020. Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.
Orv was born on September 26, 1931 in Faribault to Ernest and Bertha (Behm) Sawatzky. He attended Montgomery Public School. Orv served in the United States Army from 1950-1952 in Korean War. Orv was united in marriage for 65 years to Gwen Eastman on May 20, 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Faribault. He worked as a sheet metal worker for Marvin Bauernfiend and Vern Goedtl (Bauernfiend and Goedtl). Orv farmed on the homestead and enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, watching westerns, Twins and the Vikings.
Orv was survived by his wife, Gwen Sawatzky of Montgomery; children, Cindy (Duane) Holicky of Le Center, Julie (Lyle) Holicky of Le Center, Matthew Sawatzky (special friend, Carla Vossen) of Montgomery, and Paul Sawatzky of Montgomery; 9 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren.
Orv is preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael; brothers, Gerhardt (Elsie) Sawatzky and Franklin “Fritz” Sawatzky; sisters, Pauline (Ernie) Fredenberg and Viola Kohout.
