Richard John "Dick" Wieland, 82, of St. Henry, died Friday, January 1, 2016 at Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Le Center Funeral Home in Le Center concluding with a prayer service by the Knights of Columbus at 6:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church in St. Henry with visitation 1 hour prior at the church. Burial will be at St. Henry Cemetery. Lunch will follow at St. Mary's Social Hall in Le Center.
Richard was born on the family farm (Est. 1889) in Sharon Township near St. Henry on July 15, 1933 to Joseph A. and Lucy M. (Traxler) Wieland. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska from 1954 to 1956. Richard was united in marriage to Dolores Rohlfing in Cleveland, MN on July 17, 1956. Richard farmed and also worked as a rural mail carrier for Le Center.
He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, and Catholic Order of Foresters. He enjoyed camping, spending time in Arizona during Minnesota winters with his wife, spending time with family and friends, loved dancing, and old time and country music, and feeding and watching birds.
Richard is survived by his wife, Dolores Wieland, of St. Henry; children, Tom Wieland of Le Center, Katie (Don) Holicky of Le Center, Peggy (Doug) Stern of Wanda, Bill Wieland of Kilkenny, and Margie (Dewey) Liebl of Winnebago; brother, Tony Wieland of Le Center; grandchildren, Jesica (Nate) Kidder, Mathew Wieland, Michael (Kayla) Wieland, Adam Wieland; Gary, Larry and Jodi Holicky; Ann (Johnny) Frank, Walter (Samantha) Stern, John Stern; Dustin Wieland, Sarah (Aaron) LeMieux, Wendi (Andy) DeGrood; Corey Liebl (special friend, Kayla Micke), Kim Liebl (special friend, Chris Braun); great-grandchildren, Kryssa Kidder, Addison Wieland, Johnny and Jacee Frank, Oliver Stern, Aiden Wieland, Summer, Emily, Joseph and Anna LeMieux; sister-in-law, Donna Jellum of Waseca, and brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Julie Rohlfing of Cleveland; and special friend of the family, Debi "Bootsy" Deboodt of Kilkenny.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and father- and mother-in-law, Walter and Margaret Rohlfing; sisters, Mary Lou (Arnie) Hannigan, Alice (Ed) Balk; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bonnie Wieland, Mary Lou Rohlfing, Jean (Gordon) Foley, Walter Jellum, Marvin Rohlfing, and Ann (Joe) Rezac.
Military honors will be provided by the Le Center Area Honor Guard
