Roger Vollmer

Roger Vollmer, age 77, of Le Center, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at his home in Le Center. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 12, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Le Center Funeral Home in Le Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Le Center with visitation one hour prior at the funeral home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Le Center.

Roger was born on March 28, 1937 on the family farm in rural Le Center to Roy and Merle (Eddy) Vollmer. He graduated from Le Center High School in 1955. He enlisted in the U.S. Army later that year serving his country in Korea as a combat engineer. He was united in marriage to Margaret Cashin on June 18th, 1960 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery MN.

Roger worked for the First State Bank of Le Center for 37 years. Upon retirement he worked for Palmer Transportation as a school bus driver. He was an active supporter of the Le Center community through his participation in the city council, Lion's, Community Club, Jaycees, St. Mary's church, and the VFW Color Guard. He was honored by the American Red Cross with his 10 gallon pin for blood donation. Roger was a lifetime member and past commander of Le Center VFW post 1803. His interests included motorcycling, golf, travel, and spending time with friends and family.

Roger is survived by children, Sheila (Larry) Thomas of Hastings, Robert (Melanie) Vollmer of Le Center; Grandchildren, Nathan, Connor and Lauren Thomas and Brennan and Gracelyn Vollmer; Siblings, Beth Barber of Le Center and Lloyd Vollmer of Hastings; Sister-in-laws, Mary Krenik and Rita Halloran; Brother-in-laws, T. Donald (Betty) Cashin and John "Jack" (Wilma) Cashin; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Margaret; sisters, Jean and Carol; two brother-in-laws, a sister-in-law; three nieces and one nephew.

Military honors will be provided by the Le Center Area Honor Guard.
