Russell Harry Dietz, age 72, of Montgomery, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Mayo Systems Hospital in Mankato, surrounded by family. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 20 from 1 to 4pm at Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery with a funeral service following. Interment will be at a later date.
Russell was born on September 30, 1946 to Harry and Leota (Busta) Dietz. He graduated from Montgomery High School. He was in the US Army Reserves and Montgomery Police Reserves. Along with working at the flour mill in New Prague, he owned and operated his own auto body shop, and then bakery in Montgomery. He was united in marriage with Joyce Hatten on May 29, 1969 in Bancroft, Iowa.
Russell enjoyed fishing, tractor pulling, polka music, playing concertina for the “Stray Cats”, and was active in Pioneer Power.
Russell is survived by his children, Jason (Megan) Dietz of Osakis, Jennifer (Sean) Buckridge of Lonsdale, Matthew (Audrey) Dietz of New Prague, Jonathan (Jennifer) Dietz of Slinger WI, and Mitchell (Caitlin) Dietz of Shakopee; siblings, Judi Dietz and Katie Dietz both of Apple Valley; 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Russell is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his parents; and sister, Linda Dietz.
