Russell O'Malley

Russell O'Malley, age 88, of Le Center died Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Pheasants Ridge Assisted Living in St. Peter. Visitation will be held at Le Center Funeral Home on Friday, October 18, 2013 from 1:00PM - 3:00PM. A Memorial Service will also be held on Friday at the Le Center Funeral Home at 3:00PM. Burial is at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Le Center.

Russell was born on December 8, 1924 in Le Sueur County to Ambrose and June (Whipps) O'Malley. He served in the US Navy during WWII was united in marriage to Betty Lou (Bartlet) O'Malley on June 14, 1945. He was a truck driver and also worked for Selly Road Construction.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, bird watching and the outdoors. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Le Center.

Russell is survived by children; Mike (Mary Jo) O'Malley of Elysian, Colleen (Paul) Fay of St. Peter, Patsy Boettcher of Le Center, Sharon Adams of Eagan and Karen Callahan of Eden Prairie, 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson, siblings; Glen O'Malley of AZ, Mike (Zoe) O'Malley of OR, Roger (Mavis) O'Malley of Hutchinson, Darlene Kasparek of AZ and Betty Tuma of Le Center, sister-in-laws Beverly O'Malley, Phyllis Bartlet and brother-in-law Irv Bickell.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty Lou in 2008, son-in-law Denis Boettcher, granddaughter-in-law Sandy Boettcher, brothers; Kenneth, Leonard and Walter O'Malley, sister-in-law Eileen Bickell and brother-in-law Charlie Bartelt.

Military Honors will be provided by the Le Center Honor Guard.
