Shirley Scheffert

Shirley Scheffert, age 82, of Montgomery, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at her home. Private Family Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2pm on Wednesday, November 25 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Fr. Tom Niehaus officiating. Shirley was born on June 19, 1938 in New Prague to William and Helen (Kajer) Svobodny. She was a graduate of New Prague High School and St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato where she received her LPN nursing degree. Shirley was united in marriage to Karl J. Scheffert on May 14, 1960 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. She worked at Coast to Coast Store in Montgomery, Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague and for Montgomery-Lonsdale School where she worked proudly as the School Nurse.

Shirley was a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church CCW, Red Hat Ladies, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Montgomery Arts and Heritage Center in Montgomery, also for the Holy Redeemer Festival and was an election judge. She enjoyed visiting with family, friends and grandchildren.

Shirley was survived by children, Mark (Roxanne) Scheffert of Las Vegas, NV, Scott (Diane) Scheffert of Watertown, SD, Mary Kaye (Kevin) Keohen of Shakopee, Donna (Dale) Hanson of New Prague and Susan (Bryan) Broholm of Shakopee; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Diana Svobodny of New Prague.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Karl Scheffert; her parents; brother, Dick Svobodny; and sister, Mary Jane Svobodny; step-mom, Mary Ann Slavik Svobodny.
