Theodore 'Roy' Engel

Theodore "Roy" Engel, 83, of Le Center, passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Central Health Care in Le Center. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 28, from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Le Center Funeral Home in Le Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 29 at 11 am at United Methodist Church in Le Center with visitation at the church one hour prior. Pastor Donna Martinson will be officiating. Interment will be held in Greenwood Union Cemetery in Le Center.

Roy was born on November 21, 1935 in Winner, South Dakota to Theodore Roy and Edna May (Stewart) Engel. He attended rural grade school near Hamill SD, graduated from high school in Winner, SD., college at Dakota Wesleyan, and received his Masters at SDSU in Brookings, SD. Roy was united in marriage to Glenyce Ferwerda on November 23, 1955 in Springfield, SD. Roy was a teacher and a superintendent of schools in SD, he moved to Le Center in 1977 and became President of the First State Bank of Le Center, and served on the Board of Directors for over 40 years. Roy was a proud member of the United Methodist Church in Le Center and an active supporter of his alma mater Dakota Wesleyan University. Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, travelling, and wintered in Arizona.

Roy is survived by his wife, Glenyce Engel of Le Center; children, Kurt (Dawn) Engel of Watertown, SD, Kevin (Karyl) Engel of Le Center, Rodney (Donna) Engel of Jordan; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; siblings, Verna Mathews of Anchorage, AK, Roger Engel of Winner, SD, and Ken (Susan) Engel of Winner, SD.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Robert Engel and Donna Zemina.
