Victorine C. Fried

Victorine Fried, a Montgomery Township native, passed away peacefully on June 22, at Traditions of Montgomery. She was 95.

Victorine was born June 3, 1920, in Montgomery, MN to parents Joseph F. Schleis and Sophie Janovsky Schleis. She was the oldest of three siblings. She attended St. Raphael Parochial School and Montgomery High School, graduating in 1938. She then set out for Minneapolis, attending Calhoun Secretarial School, and returned home to marry the love of her life, Richard, on July 30th, 1940 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. The couple had two sons, Richard Jr. and Donald, making their home in Montgomery. Richard worked as a Field Boss for Green Giant Foods until his retirement in 1979.

Victorine worked as a legal secretary in the office of Joseph F. Pany for 29 years, from 1949 to 1978, and for attorney Loren Barta in New Prague, from 1978 to 1989, until her retirement. She continued to work, volunteering in the community with her bookkeeping and administrative skills, well into her 80's.

Victorine was a member of the C.C. W. of Montgomery, Montgomery Degree of Honor Society, and the Montgomery VFW Auxiliary where she was Secretary and Treasurer for many years. She also served as President of the Montgomery American Legion Auxiliary and Senior Citizens Group, worked with the Catholic Charities and volunteered at the church, organizing fund raisers and heading up special events. She enjoyed hosting social gatherings at her home in support of these causes. She loved baking and cooking, playing cards and doing word puzzles, and enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids.

Victorine will be remembered for her loyalty to her friends and family, her excellent work ethic and her wonderful Czech cooking skills, as well as her great love for the town and people of Montgomery.

Victorine leaves behind a son, Donald (Debra) and two grandsons, Scott F. Fried of St. Paul and Mark L. Fried of Prior Lake, MN, three nieces and one nephew. She is preceded in death by Richard, (1997), and son Richard Jr., (2010), brother, Mahlon Schleis (Doreen) of Stillwater, MN, and sister, Dorothy Bendickson, of Minneapolis, MN.

The Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at 1:00, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with interment following at Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery.
