William Charles Norris, Jr., age 74, of Le Center died on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be held Monday, August 12 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Le Center Funeral Home, with a prayer service and sharing of memories at 3:30 PM. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 13 at 10:00 AM, with visitation at 9:00 AM, at St. Marys Catholic Church in Le Center, with Father James Stiles officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Le Center Area Veterans Honor Guard. Following mass, interment will be at St. Henry Cemetery, and then lunch will be served at St. Marys.
William was born on July 16, 1945, in Washington, DC, to William C. Norris and Betty Jane (Malley) Norris. He grew up in St. Paul and graduated from St. Thomas Academy. He served with honor, dedication, and distinction in the U.S. Army, 3rd Armored (“Spearhead”) Division, in Germany. He received his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University and earned his law degree from Creighton University. He was an attorney for 25 years, operated various small businesses, and worked in security. He was an accomplished woodworker and was exceptionally well read in religion, philosophy, art, and many other fields.
William is survived by his wife, Linda (Fredrickson) Norris; and by his children, Claudia Norris of Bloomington, Howard (Stephanie) Norris and Robert (Gina) Norris of Denver, Rana (John) Smalley of La Crosse, Wisconsin; John Norris, Leah Norris, Jane (Josh) Glende, and Mara Norris of Le Center, and Michael (Rachel) Norris of Eagan; siblings, George Norris, Daniel Norris, Brian (Pat) Norris, Connie (Greg) Van Hoven, Roger Norris, Mary (Tom) Keck, and David (Erin) Norris; grandchildren, Adam Norris of Boston, MA; Lily, Samuel, Isabelle Norris, Meagan and Michael Greckel of Denver, CO, Jack and Allison Smalley of La Crosse, WI, Alexander and Macie Glende, Jude, William, Roman, Lincoln, and Julian Soto of Le Center. William was outlasted by Buster, a Cardigan Welsh Corgi of substantial intellect and serene disposition.
